 It’s normal for a patient to have discomfort for a day or two after braces or retainers are adjusted. But it can make eating uncomfortable. The discomfort is both normal and temporary. Encourage soft foods, rinse the mouth with warm salt water. If the patient is allowed to have over-the-counter pain relievers, acetaminophen or ibuprofen may be effective.

Brushing while wearing braces is of the utmost importance to prevent decalcification and cavities. Cavities are permanently damaged areas in the hard surface of your teeth that develop into tiny openings or holes. Cavities, also called tooth decay or caries, are caused by a combination of factors, including bacteria in your mouth, not cleaning your teeth well, frequent snacking and sipping sugary drinks.

Cavities and tooth decay are among the world's most common health problems. They're especially common in children, teenagers and older adults. But anyone who has teeth can get cavities, including infants.

If cavities aren't treated, they get larger and affect deeper layers of your teeth. They can lead to severe toothache, infection and tooth loss. Regular dental visits and good brushing and flossing habits go a long way toward preventing cavities and tooth decay.Make sure you are visiting your General Dentist at least twice a year.

Congrats! to Emily who won the Ice Cream Social for her class!

Emily entered our contest on facebook and submitted an essay  about her teacher! The prize was an Ice Cream Social at our Highlands Ranch office.We catered the Ice Cream from Magill's Ice Cream parlor and had 30 2nd graders for about an hour. We really enjoyed this time with Emily and her class.

What do you like best about your smile?..... My teeth aren't wearing on each other anymore! I had just sort of resigned myself to crooked teeth-No More!!!!

What food are you looking forward to eating?.....Honestly, though it's lame- sandwiches and sushi and rice...all that stuff that usually gets stuck for days.

What was your favorite experience?.....How wonderfully Dr. Holt and staff handled my situation coming in from India & unemployed!

What will you miss the most?.....Seriously, your staff is the best. You care for your patients and it's wonderful. It is rediculous to say Im a little sad to get my braces off because you guys are awesome and I'll sort of miss visiting.

How does your new smile make you feel?.....I'm not sure yet, hopefully no longer like a high school kid.

 This year we will be holding our" Doctor appreciation Party" at Pirates Cove! We would like to thank all of our referring doctors and their staff!
